How do I know if my gambling may be becoming an issue?

Are you in control of your gambling? Is it affecting you negatively, and impacting other aspects of your life?

Recognising and acknowledging that you may be developing a gambling problem is the first step to gaining control.

We want you to enjoy your experience with Wolfden. Although we are not a bookmaker, we want our community to enjoy their love of sports. However, for some, it can become a problem with consequences to them, and those around them. Don't let this be you. Gambling can lead to

  • growing debt strain and financial stress
  • pressure on relationships
  • deterioration in mental health

Consider some of the following points when assessing your situation:

  • Gambling should be entertaining and not be seen as an income generating activity.
  • Only gamble what you can afford to lose.
  • Do not chase losses.
  • Keep abreast of the amount of time you spend and funds you allocate to gambling.

Some signs that may indicate a risk of developing a gambling problem:

  • When you lose a bet, you try to win it back
  • You gamble more money than you can afford to, or originally wanted to spend
  • You look at selling items, or borrowing money to fund your gambling
  • You keep losing track of time when gambling

If you feel as though your wagering behaviour is becoming a concern, please visit the Gambling Help Online website, included below, and spend a few short minutes completing the anonymous self-assessment questionnaire which will help determine your gambling risk level. Should you be deemed a problem gambler we encourage you to seek advice and take proactive steps to cease/limit your spend.
